Overview
The consultant will lead the technical design, coordination, and capacity building for establishing demonstration sites for closed fish farming systems (Recirculating Aquaculture Systems – RAS) to promote sustainable aquaculture practices in Iraq.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed technical specifications for RAS systems.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and social safeguards.
- Liaise with FAO experts and the Program Management Unit.
- Follow up on aquaculture activities and provide technical support.
- Organize and facilitate stakeholder meetings.
- Lead the design and delivery of workshops and training sessions on RAS.
- Prepare training materials, agendas, and evaluation tools.
- Ensure knowledge transfer and mentoring for local stakeholders.
- Draft technical specifications and documentation for demonstration sites.
- Prepare progress reports, meeting minutes, and a final consultancy report.
- Lead and oversee the implementation of RAS systems.
- Coordinate and supervise field activities for establishing RAS demonstration sites.
- Provide on-site technical support during installation phases.
- Monitor system performance during initial operation.
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in RAS design, implementation, and project coordination.
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work.
- Deep knowledge of RAS systems, fish nutrition, and sustainable aquaculture practices.
- Skilled in building partnerships and facilitating multi-stakeholder processes.
- Experience in designing and delivering effective training programs.
- Ability to identify challenges and propose practical solutions.
- Proven experience in capacity building and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
• Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or related field. Consultants with a bachelor's degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience.
