Overview
Provide technical support for the production of gender statistics, analysis, and research in Asia and the Pacific. The role involves supporting the implementation of gender and environment surveys, building capacity on gender statistics, and assisting with data analysis and dissemination.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for Gender and Environment Surveys design, training sessions, data collection, and analysis.
- Build the capacity of national statisticians on indicator metadata and calculations.
- Assist in the development of gender and environment survey reports and related publication products.
- Assist in the communication and dissemination of data through publication development and coordination with government authorities.
- Conduct data analysis, data integration, and generate estimates, data tables, graphs, and other data visualizations.
- Contribute to regional and country data reports and briefs.
- Support the production process of publications and other knowledge products.
- Draft background documents for data-related events.
- Support the consultation of products with relevant stakeholders.
- Support colleagues within the Regional Office and across UN Women Country Offices with data-related requests.
- Liaise with colleagues in other teams to support data-related work.
- Review and provide comments and feedback on reports produced by colleagues and partners.
- Contribute to the Women Count team’s support to country offices and national governments.
- Support with data verification, accuracy, and consistency checks of reports and other research and knowledge products.
- Act as the secretariat for the Sub-group on Gender Statistics Training (SGGST), coordinating meetings and steering group work.
- Support the monitoring and evaluation of regional capacity through curriculum performance.
- Support the coordination, preparations, and facilitation of gender statistics training sessions and activities.
- Prepare presentations, case studies, and other background documents for training implementation.
- Support the collection of information on training impact for monitoring purposes.
- Provide support in the daily operations of the Gender Statistics team.
Required Experience
- A minimum of 2 years professional experience in microdata analysis, preferably microdata from demographic and health surveys, multiple indicator cluster surveys, or other individual-level surveys to generate gender analysis.
- Experience with supporting the implementation of Gender and Environment or similar complex household surveys, including calculating survey estimates.
- Experience calculating gender indicators, particularly internationally agreed indicators such as SDG, ICPD, Sendai, and others.
- Professional experience supporting national governments in the Asia-Pacific region, especially national statistical offices, for the production and use of gender statistics is required.
- Experience delivering technical trainings or leading capacity building efforts on gender statistics.
- Proven track record of publications, preferably analytical publications on development issues, including statistical tables and graphs is required.
- Knowledge of data communications, including visualization, is necessary.
- Experience working with and liaising with UN partners and field offices is highly desirable.
- Previous work on gender statistics in Asia and the Pacific is highly desirable.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in the field of statistics, mathematics, computer science, data science, demography, econometrics, gender statistics, international development, or other related area is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
