Overview

Support the regional Environment under Review Subprogramme through research and administrative support. The role involves coordinating with focal points, following up on indicators, and updating a regional data platform.


Key Responsibilities
  • General support for the implementation of the biennial workplan of the Science - Policy Subprogramme.
  • Ensure smooth coordination and regular exchange of information with focal points of the UNEP´s Regional Environmental Information Network (REIN).
  • Follow up with countries regarding current production of SDGs indicators.
  • Support the Unit in the continuous updating and data enrichment of the regional data platform.
  • Conduct secondary data research to support the development of concept notes, proposals, policy briefs or activities.
  • Support the preparation of communications pieces, technical briefing notes, news pieces, draft reports and publications.
  • Support the start-up phase of any projects.
  • Assist in the organization of meetings, training and workshops.
  • Support other activities as requested.
Required Experience

No prior professional experience is required. Candidates are expected to demonstrate relevant academic background or coursework aligned with environmental research, data analysis and management, statistical and analytical methods, as well as programming or development tasks. This may include academic projects, research assignments, or coursework that highlight their ability to work effectively with data and apply quantitative techniques.

Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in a master's degree programme in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Environmental Science or other relevant field of study; or
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Science, Environmental Sciences or other relevant field of study; or
  • Have graduated with a university degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Science, Environmental Sciences or other relevant field of study.

Languages Required
Fluency in oral and writing English and Spanish are required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Contract Duration
3-6 months
Work Modality
Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship in person with an option of working remotely for a part of the internship.
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
