Overview
The Protection Officer is responsible for supervising and monitoring the effective and high-quality implementation of protection interventions in targeted areas, ensuring equitable access to protection services for vulnerable individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement protection activities, including child and women protection, in collaboration with IRC partners.
- Participate in protection needs assessments and identification of risks.
- Implement psychosocial activities for children and adults.
- Organize training and provide technical support to local actors in protection.
- Develop and implement a capacity building plan for partners.
- Provide technical support to partners in implementing project approaches.
- Distribute dignity kits to vulnerable women and adolescent girls.
- Support local actors in establishing mechanisms for prevention and response to violence and abuse.
- Train local structures on project-related themes.
- Organize workshops on developing protection risk management plans.
- Train community facilitators and partners on SAFE, Girlshine, and Parenting approaches.
- Monitor the implementation of SAFE, Girlshine, and Parenting sessions.
- Establish referral mechanisms for children and women.
- Conduct community mobilization activities.
- Ensure smooth collaboration with local authorities and community leaders.
- Conduct regular quantitative and qualitative monitoring of implemented activities.
- Ensure compliance with minimum standards for GBV and child protection.
- Plan and conduct field visits to monitor activity quality and support partners.
- Produce periodic reports (weekly, monthly, etc.).
- Contribute to data collection for child protection project proposals.
- Produce activity reports presenting results, good practices, and lessons learned.
- Ensure timely collection of quality protection monitoring data.
- Support communities in effective community protection action planning.
- Participate in meetings, report writing, and responding to external information requests.
- Participate in protection coordination forums.
- Organize meetings with other organizations working in protection.
- Draft and distribute meeting minutes.
- Conduct field visits to monitor, coach, and supervise teams.
- Ensure timely collection, analysis, and transmission of qualitative and quantitative data.
- Verify and validate partner deliverables before payment.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with team members.
- Promote teamwork, provide guidance and technical support.
- Ensure quality of integration activities.
- Ensure effective collaboration with other IRC sectors.
- Ensure the proper functioning of the program's documentation and archiving system.
- Coordinate logistical needs with the logistics department.
- Ensure strict and continuous adherence to security rules.
- Maintain regular contact with implementing partners, local authorities, and community leaders.
- Immediately report any problem or incident to the supervisor.
- Execute any other task requested by the supervisor.
- Prepare daily/weekly and monthly team travel schedules.
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of proven professional experience in the humanitarian field or with NGOs.
- At least 3 years of proven experience in the protection sector, including general protection, child protection, and GBV, with a thorough understanding of prevention and response approaches in these sectors.
- Experience in socio-economic reintegration and in community awareness and mobilization.
- Experience in capacity building/organizing training and post-training follow-up.
- Good knowledge of the intervention area and local languages of the project area.
Qualifications
- Hold at least a bachelor's degree in social sciences or other relevant fields.
- Have followed training in supervision of child protection and GBV case management.
