Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Technician - Associate supports the planning, implementation, and supervision of infrastructure projects in the mechanical engineering area, ensuring quality, safety, and timely execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical input to project work plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design standards, technical specifications, and contractual obligations.
- Conduct quality inspections, verify materials, and supervise safety and environmental standards.
- Support the resolution of technical and operational problems.
- Verify contractor progress, prepare and review interim payment certificates (IPCs), and ensure accurate documentation for disbursements.
- Review change orders and cost claims.
- Support timely delivery of site progress reports, updates, and construction milestone documentation.
- Coordinate with end-users, contractors, consultants, and local authorities.
- Organize and participate in project meetings, prepare minutes, and follow up on action points.
- Support specialists in facilitating effective communication among project stakeholders.
- Collaborate in maintaining good relations with project neighbors and communities.
- Monitor compliance with contractual obligations of the supervising company and construction contractor.
- Monitor progress and report deviations from approved schedules and work plans.
- Provide periodic updates on inspection and testing plans.
- Support the preparation of technical and progress reports.
- Prepare inspection reports or conduct site inspections.
- Provide support to project administration, procurement, and logistics.
- Contribute to contract and asset management, payment tracking, and procurement documentation.
- Support the organization of meetings, field visits, and workshops.
- Maintain accurate project document records, financial data, and correspondence.
- Identify administrative or operational bottlenecks and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the organization, facilitation, and development of training and learning sessions.
- Participate in knowledge sharing initiatives and Communities of Practice (CoPs).
Required Experience
- 2 to 6 years of relevant experience (depending on academic credentials) in building construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management in the mechanical engineering area.
- Experience in quality control, monitoring, and reporting within construction projects.
- Demonstrable proficiency in using collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite, etc.) and web-based management systems.
- Desired: Experience working in multicultural environments or United Nations system organizations in a developing country.
- Desired: Experience in development or humanitarian aid contexts.
- Desired: Experience in project documentation, report writing, and technical communication.
Qualifications
- Required: Secondary education (or equivalent) with 6 years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Installations Engineering, or related fields, with 2 years of relevant experience.
- Desirable: A recognized professional certification or membership in an association related to Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Installations Engineering, at either national or international level.
