Overview
The Humanitarian Context Analyst is responsible for collecting, monitoring, and analyzing humanitarian developments in Somalia to support evidence-based decision-making. The role holder will produce timely contextual and analytical reports on various humanitarian trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect information and monitor humanitarian developments.
- Analyze data and produce timely contextual and analytical reports.
- Provide regular analysis on humanitarian trends, conflict dynamics, displacement, climate risks, food security, access constraints, public health risks, and operational developments.
- Support the development of humanitarian situation reports, early warning updates, risk analysis, emergency assessments, and briefing notes.
- Contribute technical analysis and contextual information to humanitarian planning, proposal development, advocacy, and response prioritization.
- Support collaboration and information sharing with humanitarian stakeholders, peer agencies, and relevant government institutions.
- Provide technical support to the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) where appropriate.
- Maintain strong analytical standards and ensure timely dissemination of quality information products.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in humanitarian analysis, context analysis, information management, emergency preparedness, humanitarian reporting, or related humanitarian programming.
- Proven experience in collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing humanitarian, political, security, climate, and operational information into clear analytical products for senior management decision-making.
- Experience in developing humanitarian situation reports, alerts, analytical briefs, early warning products, Emergency Preparedness Plans (EPPs), and contingency planning documents.
- Experience supporting humanitarian response planning, preparedness, and operational decision-making in complex humanitarian contexts.
- Strong understanding of the Somalia humanitarian, political, security, and displacement context.
- Experience working with INGOs, government institutions, humanitarian coordination platforms, or donor-funded programmes is desirable.
- Experience in information management, data visualization, and humanitarian reporting systems is an added advantage.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Humanitarian Affairs, International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, Conflict Studies, Social Sciences, Statistics, Data Analysis, or another relevant field.
