Overview
The internship will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to learn about how the UN system operates at the country level, contributing to the UN development system's mandate of enhancing coherence through policy research, advocacy, communications, and coordination support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in the research of current policies, regulations, and laws relevant to the UNSDCF focus areas.
- Conducting background research and analysis to support UN positioning, advocacy priorities and engagement with national counterparts.
- Support with drafting policy briefs, internal reports or other documents as needed.
- Supporting the preparation of advocacy materials, communication and knowledge products for internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting communications and visibility efforts related to UN campaigns, international observance days, and strategic events.
- Supporting coordination with government counterparts, UN agencies, civil society organizations, youth representatives and other stakeholders.
- Assisting in organizing meetings, workshops, consultations, webinars and high-level events related to policy dialogue and advocacy initiatives.
- Supporting logistical and administrative preparations for events, including invitations, agendas, participant coordination and note-taking.
- Assisting with follow-up actions and documentation arising from meetings and events.
- Participating in training opportunities to improve skills related to policy analysis, research and effective advocacy and communication.
- Keeping up with new trends in the above areas as well as emerging global or local issues.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
- Preferred studies: Enrolled in a bachelor’s (final year) or master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, international development studies, international relations, social sciences, political science, law, economics, or other relevant fields.
