Overview

Provides and assists in the provision of legal advice on a wide range of legal matters involving international, public, private, and administrative law. Prepares legal opinions, studies, briefs, reports, and correspondence.

Key Responsibilities

• - Provides and assists in the provision of legal advice on a wide range of legal matters.
• - Prepares and assists in the preparation of legal opinions/advice.
• - Conducts extensive legal research and analysis.
• - Undertakes review of legal documents, instruments, or other material.
• - Handles and assists in the provision of legal advice on issues relating to special political missions and other operations in the field.
• - Reviews, advises on and drafts complex contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
• - Provides legal advice on the interpretation and application of financial and staff regulations and rules.
• - Assists senior colleagues in servicing diplomatic conferences, commissions, committees, task forces, expert groups and other bodies.
• - Serves on various standing boards, committees, ad hoc working groups and task forces, as required.
• - Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing is required. Experience in dealing with issues related to the operational activities of United Nations, or other international organizations' peace or other operations in the field is required. Experience working in a law firm or in an international organization or in governmental service dealing with matters of international law is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree, or equivalent) in law is required. A first-level university degree in law, in combination with two additional years of the required work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
