Overview

The Human Rights Officer will research and analyze issues related to human rights in the digital age, and design, develop, and implement related programmes and activities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Undertakes research and analysis on human rights in the digital age.
  • Monitors and analyses developments at national, regional, and international levels.
  • Provides expertise and advice.
  • Supports advocacy and public engagements.
  • Designs, develops, and implements programmes and activities.
  • Plans and coordinates activities related to thematic and country mandates.
  • Collects and analyses human rights data and indicators.
  • Ensures human rights issues are integrated into efforts and programmes.
  • Defines work plan for assigned area.
  • Supervises field verification work.
  • Represents UN human rights programme at meetings.
  • Directs capacity-building efforts.
  • Writes reports, communications, briefings, and statements.
  • May provide guidance to new/junior staff.
Required Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law, digital technology or related area is required. Experience in the promotion and protection of human rights in the digital sphere is desirable. Experience in working with technical standard setting organisations, and technological standard-setting processes and human rights is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
