Overview
The Senior Energy Analysts will lead the analysis of energy trends and policies to help Southeast Asian countries scale up renewable energy and develop secure, affordable, and decarbonized power sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead quantitative and qualitative analysis of energy trends and policies at regional and country levels.
- Supervise and coordinate the preparation of relevant reports and develop policy recommendations.
- Analyse technical, economic, and institutional aspects related to power system flexibility, energy technology supply chains, and oil and gas security.
- Collaborate with other divisions in the Agency on policy development and system integration.
- Establish working relations with stakeholders in Southeast Asia.
- Promote the Agency's work externally through capacity building events and presentations.
Required Experience
- At least 8 years’ experience in energy market design, power sector and policy development, including applied economic and quantitative technology analysis.
- Proven track-record in drafting reports and briefings under tight timelines.
- Proven experience with market design, policies for scaling-up and integration of renewable energy, and assessment of best practices for power sector decarbonisation.
- Good appreciation of the impact of scaling up variable renewable energy and/or experience regarding flexibility of the power system and long-term resource adequacy would be a strong advantage.
- Excellent understanding of the energy sector and its supply chains.
- Demonstrated expertise in the power sector, including operations and planning would be an asset.
- Proven experience in engaging policy makers and other energy system stakeholders in emerging economies.
- Experience in and knowledge of Southeast Asia would be a strong advantage.
- Extensive experience in organizing stakeholder engagement on energy issues would be an asset.
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office software, especially Excel (including macros and pivot tables).
- Knowledge of SQL and scripting languages such as Python or R, as well as power system modeling, including dispatch cost modelling software (e.g. Plexos) would be an asset.
Qualifications
• An advanced university degree(s) in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, engineering, mathematics or other).
