Overview
The internship supports the News and Media Unit in promoting an informed understanding of the United Nations' work and goals by reaching out to media and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring German language Austrian media coverage for various Austrian national and UN topics;
- Translating and summarizing articles for a daily press review;
- Following press conferences by the Austrian Government and summarizing key points;
- Drafting content for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) including preparing visuals using CANVA;
- Drafting a wide range of media texts, including press releases and content for the Web in German and English;
- Assisting with research on specific topics;
- Supporting the production of videos, photos and audio to promote specific UN topics and the work of the organization;
- Assisting in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of press briefings and outreach events as well as high-level visits and conferences;
- Performing other tasks as necessary.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Experience with writing for social media platforms and creating visual content using CANVA should be highly desirable.
Qualifications
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
