Overview
The Liaison Officer serves as the in-country focal point for communication and coordination between the Mechanism and relevant Syrian authorities, institutions, and stakeholders. The role supports the Mechanism's operations and mandate within Syria.
Key Responsibilities
- - Fosters effective working relations with Syrian authorities, UN Country Team colleagues, civil society actors, and national/international partners.
- Provides in-country operational and logistical support to the Mechanism, including missions and staff.
- Contributes to a shared understanding of the Mechanism’s mandate and operations.
- Supports preparations for official meetings, events, and visits to Syria.
- Provides secretariat services, drafts talking points and speeches.
- Provides information and analysis to advise on issues related to the Mission's mandate.
- Assesses implications and makes recommendations on policies and strategies.
- Monitors and reports on programme/project development and implementation.
- Supervises and monitors the work of officers under his/her responsibility.
- Carries out other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in programme management, political affairs, diplomacy, or related field is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience in field operations, political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advising or reporting is required.
- Experience in multilateral engagement or diplomacy is required.
- Experience working in the MENA region is required.
- Experience working in Syria is desirable.
- Experience in conflict or post-conflict contexts is desirable.
- Experience in the areas of justice and accountability is desirable.
- Experience opening a field office is desirable.
- Experience leading teams in multi-cultural settings, including management and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in social sciences, political science, international relations, public administration, anthropology, law, economics, or related area is required. A first-level university degree with a combination of two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
