Overview

The Health Specialist is accountable for providing technical assistance in the development of immunization work plans, ensuring alignment with national health goals and targets to achieve UNICEF’s immunization-plus objectives. The role supports immunization programmes and response efforts to cVDPV2 outbreaks and other vaccine-preventable diseases.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance in the development of immunization work plans.
  • Support all five field offices, with a particular focus on Central-South Somalia, to strengthen immunization programmes.
  • Support response efforts to cVDPV2 outbreaks and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Contribute through advocacy, coordination, planning, implementation, and monitoring of immunization programmes.
  • Promote gender equality within the immunization programme.
  • Make quality contributions to the development and implementation of immunization strategies and approaches.
  • Monitor and evaluate project implementation progress.
  • Provide technical support to government and NGOs.
  • Strengthen the capacities of MoH staff.
  • Ensure UNICEF and Government accountability for supply and non-supply assistance.
  • Achieve and maintain effective partnership and collaboration.
  • Provide relevant and strategic information to support the Immunization Programme.
  • Prepare all required programme reports.
  • Maintain emergency preparedness and develop emergency/outbreak responses.
  • Apply and monitor UNICEF procedures and measures regarding Post Distribution Aid Diversion (PDAD).
  • Plan and implement programmatic visits to monitor implementing partners.
  • Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Required Experience

At least 5 years of relevant work experience in Nutrition, Health, Social Policy, immunization, public health, maternal and child health, epidemiology, health systems strengthening, health program management, monitoring and evaluation, disease surveillance, emergency response, health policy and planning. and any other related fields.

Qualifications

Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Child Development, Child Health, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Public Administration, Social Policy, Social Development, Community Development, and any other related fields.
