Overview

The Chief Education will provide strategic and technical leadership for the management of the education programme, ensuring oversight of its pillars and working closely with field offices and partners.


Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the development, design, planning, implementation, and management of the Education programme.
  • Leads a group of professional and support staff to develop and manage the education programme.
  • Responsible for managing and leading all stages of education programmes/projects.
  • Responsible for leading, managing and establishing plans of action to ensure achievement of programme/project results.
  • Managerial leadership

  • Programme management, monitoring and quality control of results
  • Advisory services and technical support
  • Advocacy, networking and partnership building
  • Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building
Required Experience
  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education at the international level is required.
  • Experience in working in armed conflict settings is strongly desired.
  • Experience in managing large and diverse teams and managing a large programme portfolio including humanitarian, recovery and development is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of or Familiarity with global Education sector financing landscape is an asset.
  • Experience with negotiating and positioning with IFIs is an asset.
  • Experience with sector coordination (non-humanitarian) is an asset.
  • Experience working in upper middle income country contexts is considered as an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Familiarity/ background with emergency is considered as an asset.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
Qualifications
  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, economics, psychology, sociology or another relevant technical field.
  • A Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in a relevant area combined with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. This is applicable to internal (FT, Continuing and Permanent) staff only.

Fluency in English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
