Overview

Policy Officer role within the Directorate-General for Communications, Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) focusing on the implementation of the European Chips Act and related policies.


Key Responsibilities
  • handle intensive exchanges with Member States’ relevant authorities and private sector stakeholders (industry) in the preparation of policy proposals and their implementation;
  • strengthen the team’s capabilities in areas such as semiconductor technologies, AI, quantum technologies, competition , and/or trade policy;
  • handle exchanges and conduct joint work with other relevant Commission services on policy related to semiconductors, and the preparation and follow- up of relevant initiatives;
  • carry out market analyses;
  • draft policy notes and participate in the drafting of documents.
Required Experience

Background in engineering, economics and/or policy development; a very good understanding of the semiconductor industry and market; a good insight in geopolitical factors and economic security ; and a good grasp of technology trends. Extensive knowledge of European R&D&I instruments and programmes would be welcomed. Experience in standardisation is an asset.

Qualifications

Have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma.

Languages Required
• have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU • AND have a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU , to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.
Languages Preferred
French is an asset.
Contract Duration
The duration of the first contract will be of 1 year. Subject to the interest of the service, the contract can be extended to a maximum duration of 6 years.

Remuneration
The grade or proposed grade range , as well as the step in that grade , will be defined on the basis of the candidates’ previous professional experience. The pay of staff members consists of a basic salary supplemented with specific allowances, including, where applicable, expatriation and family allowances.
