Overview
The Education Officer will support the direct implementation of education activities in assigned schools and communities, focusing on learner enrolment, retention, foundational learning recovery, teacher support, and community mobilization.
Key Responsibilities
- Support direct implementation of education activities in assigned schools and communities.
- Assist with community mapping, household outreach, enrolment and re-enrolment mobilization, back-to-school campaigns, and learner follow-up.
- Support implementation of TaRL, remedial learning, catch-up classes, transition support sessions, radio listening groups, and other learning recovery activities.
- Assist with distribution and tracking of teaching and learning materials.
- Conduct regular visits to schools and communities to follow up on implementation progress.
- Support schools, PTAs/SMCs, and community leaders to improve learner attendance, retention, transition, and participation.
- Follow up on children at risk of dropout and support community-based actions to keep learners engaged.
- Support implementation of community engagement activities related to girls’ participation, inclusion of children with disabilities, and learner retention.
- Support organization of teacher and facilitator activities, including training follow-up, school visits, and implementation support.
- Assist with classroom observation, mentoring follow-up, and monitoring of teacher/facilitator attendance and performance.
- Support teachers and facilitators to use agreed tools, lesson plans, and learner grouping approaches.
- Collect and organize routine field records, including attendance, activity implementation records, learner participation data, and school visit notes.
- Support routine monitoring visits and provide implementation updates to supervisors.
- Assist with collection of assessment, progression, and transition data.
- Prepare field notes, activity summaries, and implementation reports.
- Promote safe programming and uphold safeguarding standards during all field activities.
- Support community awareness of project objectives, eligibility criteria, and feedback channels.
- Ensure activities are implemented in ways that are inclusive of girls, children with disabilities, over-age learners, and other vulnerable children.
- Identify and report safeguarding, accountability, attendance, or implementation concerns.
Required Experience
Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in education programming or related field implementation roles. Experience working with schools, communities, and local authorities is strongly preferred. Experience in fragile, conflict-affected, or low-capacity settings required, preferably in South Sudan or similar contexts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field required.
