Overview
The Recycling Assistant will coordinate the implementation of the recycling component of the project and oversee the daily operation of the recyclable sorting facility and collection activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Oxfam recyclable sorting facility.
- Develop and update collection routing plans for recyclables collection.
- Lead and distribute daily tasks to truck drivers.
- Follow up with household collectors, commercial entities, and industrial sites.
- Ensure a sufficient number of collection cages are installed and relocated.
- Liaise and follow up with municipalities on collection-related matters.
- Assist in selection, coaching, and training of CFW workers.
- Attend and deliver induction sessions for new CFW workers.
- Co-facilitate and brief community groups on recycling project activities.
- Coordinate with the Community Engagement team to flag hotspots requiring awareness-raising activities.
- Ensure SWM standards, regulations, and the health and safety action plan are respected.
- Support the Recycling Officer in maintaining health and safety checklists.
- Monitor and maintain logs/records of recycling materials.
- Raise purchase/procurement requests for consumable materials and supplies.
- Propose ideas/innovations for improving operational services.
- Assist in troubleshooting potential problems.
- Report any accidents or issues affecting security and operations.
- Contribute timely and quality reporting on recycling project activities.
- Assist in collecting best practices and case studies.
- Assist in ensuring that all programmes take gender/protection issues fully into account.
- Work with the MEAL team in developing and strengthening accountability mechanisms.
- Deliver any other responsibility assigned by the line manager.
- Actively communicate and coordinate internally with other teams.
- Participate in weekly stand-up meetings.
- Supervise work on-site and be responsible for the implementation of the recycling project.
- Set performance objectives with the line manager.
Required Experience
- 1–2 years of experience managing or supervising facilities/centers operations, ideally within solid waste management or cash-for-work programs.
- Experience working with INGOs is preferred.
- Familiarity with community engagement principles and approaches.
- Experience coordinating with host community stakeholders, municipalities, and/or local authorities.
- Knowledge or experience of integrating protection and gender into programmes.
