Overview

The Manager, Legal will oversee Environmental and Social (E&S) matters, Global Industries, and Upstream (Investment) within IFC's Legal Department. The role involves managing a team of legal professionals and providing high-quality legal advice.


Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a team of lawyers, legal assistants/analysts and support staff.
  • Primary supervision of lawyers working in Global Industries, Upstream (Investment) and E&S matters.
  • Ensuring the provision of timely and high-quality legal services and advice to client departments.
  • Monitoring legal and policy issues and presenting them for discussion and resolution.
  • Managing relationships with business counterparts.
  • Developing and implementing processes and procedures to ensure awareness of legal and business risks.
  • Providing a single point of contact on issues arising in the above sectors and subject matters.
  • Coordinating with AGCs in the regions to assign projects and handle high-risk E&S matters.
  • Coordinating with counterparts in IBRD/IDA and MIGA legal departments.
  • Participating in the day-to-day management of the Legal Department and setting strategic goals.
  • Assisting in administrative and personnel matters and other CLED operations.
  • Assisting in the provision of general legal and policy advice.
  • Representing the VP&GC and DGCs at meetings and acting on their behalf.
  • Assisting in the implementation of departmental or corporate initiatives.
  • Fostering team building and knowledge-sharing.
  • Identifying staffing and hiring needs and managing recruitment and onboarding.
  • Monitoring workflow, volume of work deliverables and delivery of work of direct reports.
  • Facilitating staff development by mentoring and coaching staff members.
  • Ensuring efficient and fair assignment of project, departmental and corporate work.
  • Coordinating with other AGCs and relevant Global Lead Counsel on assignments.
  • Providing ongoing informal and formal feedback to direct reports.
Required Experience

A minimum of 15 years relevant work experience including private sector investments in emerging markets and policy related work.

Qualifications

JD or equivalent law degree
