Overview
The Communications and Advocacy Analyst supports the delivery of UNFPA's Country Programme by leading the planning, facilitation, and monitoring of strategic communication and advocacy initiatives. The role ensures UNFPA's mission is clearly communicated and aligned with national policies and UN-wide initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Promotes awareness about UNFPA centrality to the ICPD agenda through dissemination of strategic information and materials.
- Maintains networks and knowledge assets for visibility and institutional image initiatives.
- Makes recommendations on the design and delivery of institutional image and advocacy activities.
- Collects, analyses, and disseminates information on sexual reproductive health and rights, adolescents and youth, SDGs, gender equality, GBV, and humanitarian assistance.
- Identifies and develops activities to enhance the visibility of UNFPA’s work.
- Develops/oversees advocacy materials (factsheets, presentations, briefs, etc.).
- Develops promotional activities based on monitoring/evaluation of information.
- Develops messages for use by UNFPA staff when working with partners.
- Reviews documents and materials for consistency and validity of communications.
- Creates and cultivates networks of partners to promote UNFPA’s communication strategies.
- Supports and monitors advocacy and communication activities conducted by stakeholders and partners.
- Conducts assessments of activities to improve impact and effectiveness.
- Formulates strategy for UNFPA branding and provides guidance on corporate image activities.
- Formulates strategy for the implementation of promotional activities and materials.
- Develops strategies for improved and expanded coverage in the media.
- Develops relationships and contacts with media, high profile advocates, and social/free media.
- Disseminates information and strategic materials to the media.
- Develops briefings and organizes interviews and press conferences.
- Monitors press conferences of UNFPA issues.
- Undertakes follow-up action and analyses the impact of coverage and effectiveness of communication activities.
- Builds consensus on projected image and sets priorities on key audiences.
- Secures necessary resources for corporate image building.
- Develops and/or adapts communications procedures and protocols.
- Manages communication files.
- Shares information and networks with regional office and HQ.
- Writes stories for UNFPA's internal newsletter “Voices”.
- Organizes advocacy campaigns on international days.
- Monitors and analyses current events, public opinion, and press coverage, identifies issues and trends, and advises UNFPA on appropriate actions/responses.
- Develops documents/publications/communication materials, presentations, speeches, background information for interviews, meetings, and other communication events.
- Distributes institutional communication materials to key audiences.
- Updates UNFPA Myanmar website and social media with latest press releases, publications, materials, job vacancies, and other information.
- Updates the I-Docs with programme and operational information.
- Supports the Representative as co-Chair of the UN Communications Group (UNCG) and participates as focal point in the UNCG and other interagency initiatives.
- Participates in the promotion of the Country Programme and engages in programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Prepares regular inputs to implement M&E plan.
- Interacts with key stakeholders and maintains a solid network of partners.
- Coordinates efforts with internal and external partners.
- Contributes to knowledge creation and sharing by synthesizing and documenting findings, lessons learned, success stories, best practices, strategies, and approaches.
- Participates in the planning of capacity building/training activities.
- Supports the knowledge sharing and knowledge management strategy in the Country Office.
- Works to guarantee the implementation and financial execution of program activities.
- Supports processes of contracting.
- Uses Atlas system according to Profile.
- Undertakes other tasks as may be assigned by the UNFPA Representative.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the field of communication.
- Previous experience on building effective partnerships with members of the media, NGOs, international and national organizations, business groups, and others.
- An understanding of the UN system in general, and especially UNFPA mandate, and operations.
- Good knowledge of current development issues in Myanmar.
- Good understanding of Myanmar culture, history and political contexts.
- Good with communications approaches for planning, executing, and monitoring communications strategies.
- Experience as a spokesperson for an international organization will be an added advantage.
- Excellent computer/information systems skills.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree in Political Science, Media Studies, Communication, Public Relations, Population, Demography and/or other related social science related fields.
