Overview

The Communications Intern will support the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Kyrgyzstan with communications and advocacy efforts, gaining experience in multimedia content creation, media monitoring, and visibility of UN activities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide logistical and functional support during press conferences, workshops, and high-level UN events.
  • Assist in drafting, translating and editing communication products (press releases, social media posts).
  • Support the development of multimedia content (photography, videography, editing, design of digital/print materials).
  • Contribute to UN communication campaigns and visibility activities.
  • Support media monitoring by compiling daily/weekly coverage of UN activities in national and regional media.
  • Assist with translations between English, Russian, and Kyrgyz, as required.
  • Maintain an organized archive of communications materials (news clippings, photos, videos, reports).
  • Perform other communications-related duties as requested.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in communications, journalism, marketing, media studies, public relations, international relations, political or social sciences, or a related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in communications, journalism, marketing, media studies, public relations, international relations, political or social sciences, or a related field (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated skills in photography, videography, and use of editing/design software (Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva or similar).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Other Details
Languages Required
Fluency in English and Russian, both oral and written, is required.
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of Kyrgyz language is a strong asset.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
