Overview
To assist the Area Operations Manager with all matters related to staff and premises safety and security, and risk management, in accordance with minimum operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to security and safety guidelines by all staff.
- Monitor implementation of security and safety guidelines and submit reports.
- Check Minimum Operation Standards of field offices during field visits.
- Provide safety and security induction to new staff and briefings to international consultants.
- Provide safety and security related training to all staff.
- Assist in providing training for Safety and Security Focal Persons.
- Provide guidance in respective area in security and safety for staff and offices.
- Regularly update all emergency contact points.
- Collect political and local incidents and submit to Area Operations Manager.
- Ensure fire extinguishers and First Aid Kits are in place and checked.
- Assist in conducting fire drills.
- Assist in procuring, maintaining, and providing safety related equipment.
- Conduct regular support visits to all field offices.
- Serve as Safety and Security point of contact in the Safety and Security Manager’s absence.
- Monitor and analyze the security situation.
- Conduct regular Security Risk Assessments.
- Identify threats related to armed conflict, criminality, natural disasters, and political developments.
- Recommend and implement mitigation measures.
- Support development and review of local safety and security plans.
- Ensure staff understand and adhere to security protocols and SOPs.
- Assist in setting up and maintaining the incident reporting and incident tracker.
- Deliver safety and security briefings to new and visiting staff.
- Conduct regular training and drills.
- Provide awareness sessions on travel safety, checkpoint behaviors, civil-military interactions, and landmine/UXO risks.
- Support program teams in planning safe field movements and activities.
- Liaise with S&S focal from different Organizations for safe humanitarian access.
- Act as the first security focal point for any incident in the area.
- Support initial incident response, reporting, and coordination.
- Assist in crisis management and emergency response planning and execution.
- Participate in regional security forums or coordination groups.
- Submit regular security updates and weekly reports.
- Maintain an updated network of security contacts.
- Monitor and support the maintenance of safety equipment.
- Oversee the implementation of vehicle safety protocols and Staff movement.
- Collect daily weather forecasts and inform relevant parties.
- Ensure staff understand and can practice the contingency plan for emergencies.
- Ensure Emergency Relocation/Hibernation Plan is in place and practical.
- Assist in staff relocation and hibernation in cases of emergency.
- Assist in coordination with Humanitarian Team for Rapid Assessment for Emergency Response.
- Ensure staff provide beneficiaries with information about Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
- Take steps to prevent abuse, exploitation, neglect, harm and modern slavery within areas of responsibility.
Required Experience
One-year professional working experience, in development sector preferred. Experience in security and safety and other risks.
