Overview

The Coordinator will advance UN-Habitat’s SDG Localization and multilevel governance agenda by steering a coherent, high-impact workstream and delivering senior-level results in coordination, advocacy, strategic engagement, narrative, knowledge development, and communications.


Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate core team members and supervise/provide technical guidance to Communications and Strategic Engagement Officer and Advocacy, Knowledge Management and Web Development Consultant.
  • Coordinate planning and delivery with relevant UN-Habitat Teams, Sections, Offices, and the Secretariat of the Local2030 Coalition.
  • Lead the design and delivery of the Team’s integrated advocacy and strategic-engagement strategy.
  • Plan, lead and deliver networking, advocacy, and technical exchanges efforts for SDG Cities and Partnership Platform on Localizing the SDGs.
  • Steer UN-Habitat’s positioning on SDG Localization and Multilevel Governance across key intergovernmental moments.
  • Coordinate and provide high-level strategic and substantive direction on advocacy products.
  • Represent the Team in project activities and cultivate strategic relationships with relevant technical counterparts.
  • Oversee stakeholder mappings, advocacy trackers and engagement calendars.
  • Act as custodian of the Team's overarching narrative on SDG Localization and multilevel governance.
  • Set the direction of the Team's knowledge agenda.
  • Lead the development, technical review and quality assurance of policy papers, guidance notes and flagship reports.
  • Steer the knowledge-to-policy-to-implementation pipeline.
  • Guide the systematization of knowledge resources, repositories and the SDG Localization knowledge platform.
  • Guide and quality-assure the communications strategies and products of the Team.
  • Ensure a continuous feedback loop across knowledge, advocacy and communications.
  • Ensure the Team's substantive contribution to corporate reporting, Strategic Plan 2026–2029 monitoring and institutional learning.
Required Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in sustainable development, urban development, governance, public policy, or international development, with proven expertise in coordinating teams, leading advocacy and policy initiatives, conducting policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, knowledge management, and programme coordination. Demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefing notes, concept notes, and other substantive documents, as well as experience organizing events, workshops, consultations, and multi-stakeholder processes. Experience supporting intergovernmental processes, policy dialogues, and international forums is required. Desirable experience: Experience working with or within the United Nations system or other international organizations. Knowledge of SDG Localization, multilevel governance, territorial development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Experience working with governments, local and regional authorities, international organizations, development partners or civil society organizations. Familiarity with partnership-building, peer learning initiatives and communities of practice.

Qualifications

Advanced university degrees in Public Affairs, Political Science, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Communications, Development Studies or other relevant area is required.

Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another UN official language, specifically Frenche and Spanish (written and oral), is an asset.
