Overview

The role focuses on ensuring the technical soundness, social inclusivity, and institutional sustainability of multi-hazard Early Warning System (EWS) interventions for disaster risk reduction.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical oversight of EWS design, including generation and dissemination of early warnings, and validation of designs, SOPs, and protocols.
  • Oversee system installation and operation, monitoring contractors and certifying deliverables.
  • Contribute to knowledge management and capacity building through training, drills, simulations, and awareness campaigns.
  • Oversee and report on project progress, ensuring data management and compliance with UNDP/GON/GEF standards.
  • Ensure gender and social inclusion considerations in DRR and EWS.
  • Lead and support the planning, development, and operationalization of a Disaster Information Management System (DIMS).
Required Experience

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) are required to have a minimum of two (2) years of working experience in disaster risk management and early warning systems. Desired experience includes DRR, EWS, hazard risk management, developing operational protocols and training, gender and social inclusion in early warning systems and anticipatory action, WMO frameworks and Sendai DRR targets, Hindu Kush Himalayan context, GLOF risk reduction, monsoon flood risk reduction, working with UNDP, GCF, or other donor-funded projects, and environmental and climate change issues in Nepal.

Qualifications

Advanced University Degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Disaster Risk Management, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or other relevant discipline is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the above-mentioned fields in combination with additional 2 years of relevant experience will be given due consideration.
