Overview
Support the development and operationalization of a national Protected Area Registry System and related spatial planning and monitoring activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and confirm requirements for the PA Registry System.
- Contribute to functional specifications, data models, and workflow descriptions.
- Coordinate system enhancement with FAO, CEPA, and ICT consultants.
- Support testing, issue tracking, and user feedback for PA Registry functions.
- Prepare user documentation and training materials.
- Compile, clean, and structure PA-related datasets.
- Upload, update, and quality control PA data in GeoNode and PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
- Assist in linking gazettal records, agreements, and management plans to PA records.
- Review PAME/METT and NRM Hub information for linkage to PA Registry records.
- Support preparation of PA statistics, maps, and reporting outputs.
- Support participatory land use planning and mapping activities.
- Work with stakeholders to compile and validate spatial planning information.
- Prepare maps and spatial products for land use planning and consultations.
- Identify linkages between PA Registry outputs and DLPP systems.
- Ensure sensitive community information is handled according to data governance.
- Review relevance of Open Foris FERM for restoration initiatives.
- Identify and compile candidate restoration initiative information.
- Support preparation or entry of FERM-compatible restoration initiative records.
- Link restoration initiative information with PA Registry records.
- Prepare notes on how FERM, Earth Map, and PA Registry information can support GBF Target 2 reporting.
- Review peatland datasets and technical work on peatland mapping and monitoring.
- Compile spatial datasets relevant to peatland identification.
- Conduct preliminary assessment of data gaps and priority areas for peatland mapping.
- Review possible links between peatland mapping and other systems.
- Prepare a concept note and work plan for peatland mapping and monitoring.
- Review current food security monitoring indicators, data sources, and early warning protocols.
- Identify and compile key food security indicators for integration into the Geo-Portal.
- Utilize remote sensing tools and GIS to map food-insecure areas.
- Support definition of early warning thresholds and automated alert workflows.
- Coordinate development of a Food Security Dashboard within the GeoNode-based portal.
- Support preparation of food security bulletins and summary reports.
- Prepare user manuals for food security data entry and analysis and conduct training.
Required Experience
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in GIS, spatial information systems, geospatial database management, environmental information systems, land-use planning, remote sensing, or natural resource management.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Geography, Statistics, Data Science, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Land Administration, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.
