Overview
The IT and Telecoms Officer is responsible for the day-to-day management of IT and telecommunications services, ensuring the proper functioning of equipment, networks, applications, and information systems to guarantee a reliable and secure IT environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the management of IT and Telecom infrastructures
- Set up IT equipment as per IFRC standards
- Manage the lifecycle of IT end user equipment
- Install, maintain and support other additional local IT equipment
- Maintain the inventory system for corporate end user devices
- Conduct the IT onboarding of users
- Provide regular refresher trainings related to general digital literacy
- Provide a level 1 IT technical support function
- Maintain and improve local network resources
- Facilitate virtual, hybrid, and in-person meetings through video conferencing solutions
- Support network infrastructure components
- Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues
- Troubleshoot common network problems
- Inspect and validate physical network setups
- Monitor and troubleshoot wireless network environments
- Provide support to improve National Society IT/Telecom infrastructure
- Advise National Societies on IT capacity building
- Support and provide the NS with technical expertise for IT/Telecom equipment procurement
- Advise on IT best practices to support NS
- Support the NS based on identified needs during disaster response times
- Maintain relationships with operations and services staff to identify needs and technology gaps
- Advise on opportunities, security requirements, etc. of IT systems
- Act as subject matter expert on IT and digital transformation initiatives
- Analyze existing skills, identify further skill requirements, and provide support, development and training
- Promote a culture of Information Technology utilization and modernization
- Assess IT / Telecom equipment needs and participate in procurement
- Ensure equipment is properly captured in the inventory
- Contribute to narrative and financial reports on IT and Telecommunications activities
- Facilitate the acquisition, registration, configuration, and deployment of mobile phones, SIM cards, and communication devices
- Coordinate telecom subscriptions and communication services
- Ensure uninterrupted communication services across the cluster
Required Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in information technology
- Proficiency in using and supporting Windows environments and Microsoft M365 applications
- 3 years’ experience in computer systems (LAN, WAN TCP/IP connectivity, E-mail, application and user support domains).
- Experience in inventory and stock management
- Experience in providing training and capacity building
- Experience installing and maintaining telecommunications systems, including radio communications (VHF, HF, and UHF) and satellites (INMARSAT, Iridium, Starlink etc)
Qualifications
Relevant university degree in information technology or equivalent technical qualification plus working experience.
