Overview
The Opérateur Radio (SOC) is responsible for managing the radio station and all its equipment, handling incoming and outgoing security communications, and ensuring the availability of communication equipment for efficient office operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the United Nations System Telecommunications room communications and dispatch security information to all agencies upon request.
- Maintain daily contact with other offices, SOCs, or radio rooms, conducting radio checks at least twice daily.
- Serve as a communication relay between vehicles and users in dead zones.
- Track official field missions hourly for vehicle missions and every 30 minutes for missions in specific zones.
- Discreetly and courteously manage incoming/outgoing calls (Radio, GSM/Sat. Phone, E-mail).
- Send/receive messages using communication equipment strictly for service purposes.
- Contact Security Forces (Police/Gendarmerie), Firefighters, Civil Protection, etc., to assist UN personnel in distress or emergency.
- Inform the FSA/SA of any security information or situation impacting personnel, programs, and assets.
- Notify the FSA/Security Advisor (SA) of any security assistance requests from UN personnel and execute received recommendations.
- Support and brief UN personnel on radio usage and communications.
- Secure access to the communication room, limiting access to service needs.
- Assist with radio installation and programming.
- Maintain a log of all incoming/outgoing voice calls.
- Maintain an inventory of telecommunication equipment in the communication room.
- Track and distribute small IT and communication equipment, completing dispatch and assignment forms.
- Keep the equipment transfer sheet updated for asset traceability.
- Be available for night work.
- Contribute quality input to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
- Perform other tasks deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Experience
Bachelor's Degree - 3 year(s) experience OR High School certificate - 6 year(s) experience. Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience (with high school diploma) in communication and telecommunication. Experience with computers, office productivity software (MS Word, Excel, etc.), databases, and web-based management systems such as ERP. Experience using HF and VHF radios.
Qualifications
High school certificate and valid driver's license required.
