Overview

The Regional Statistics Specialist will oversee the regional implementation of the "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" programme, provide technical support, and contribute to strategic engagement on gender data.


Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" at the regional level.
  • Identify and undertake programmatic and administrative tasks for project implementation.
  • Support periodic regional monitoring reports on SDG targets related to gender equality.
  • Liaise with Headquarters to report on activities and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide substantive technical support for UN Women’s statistical work in the region.
  • Produce and disseminate templates, guidance notes, and methodologies.
  • Provide technical and policy support to UN Women offices and Member States.
  • Organize and provide regular training to UN Women country and programme offices.
  • Establish and lead a regional community of practice for knowledge sharing.
  • Develop and manage partnerships for regional FPI implementation.
  • Strengthen relationships with key regional players.
  • Facilitate South-South and triangular cooperation.
  • Support discussions around regional adaptation of SDGs indicators.
  • Make substantive contributions to workshops and training events.
  • Promote and publicize UN Women’s work in gender statistics.
  • Initiate resource mobilization by engaging with partners and donors.
  • Contribute to the production of monitoring plans and oversee progress monitoring.
  • Codify best practices and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to inter-regional dialogue on best practices.
  • Lead the monitoring and collection of use cases of gender statistics.
  • Produce regional guidance notes on best practices and lessons learned.
Required Experience

At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in statistics. Experience in gender equality and women's empowerment is required. Experience working in the UN system is an asset. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required. Experience in the use of a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.

Qualifications

An Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, economics or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A project/programme management certification would be an added advantage.

Languages Preferred
Knowledge of French or Portuguese is an asset. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
