Overview
The Protection Specialist provides technical oversight and support to partner organisations and DRC teams in the implementation of protection programming, focusing on strengthening technical standards, partner capacity, and referral pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and implementation of DRC’s protection strategy.
- Support the design and implementation of community-based services and referral mechanisms.
- Support the identification, analysis and mitigation of protection needs.
- Lead the development, harmonization, adaptation and roll-out of technical tools, SOPs, guidance and minimum standards.
- Contribute to protection analysis and provide recommendations.
- Provide technical input to assessments, project design, donor reporting and other programme documents.
- Participate in proposal development processes.
- Support the development of MEAL tools, indicators, and learning processes.
- Document lessons learned, good practices, and operational challenges.
- Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to implementing partners.
- Provide technical leadership in the design, adaptation, and implementation of protection approaches.
- Strengthen technical capacity through training, coaching, mentoring and on-the-job support.
- Support the implementation of safe, effective and quality programming.
- Review partner tools, workplans, reports and implementation approaches.
- Provide technical guidance and supervision for complex and sensitive cases.
- Ensure programming is implemented in accordance with accountability, safeguarding and protection principles.
- Conduct regular field visits to review programme quality and provide technical support.
- Assess capacity-strengthening needs and contribute to capacity building plans.
- Develop and deliver training materials and standardized induction packages.
- Provide technical support for the recruitment and onboarding of relevant protection roles.
- Represent DRC in relevant inter-agency coordination forums and external meetings.
- Coordinate with partners, service providers, humanitarian actors and other stakeholders.
- Support the development, updating and dissemination of service mapping.
- Promote inclusive and protection-sensitive approaches and strengthen protection integration.
- Support the generation of evidence, developing protection and thematic analysis, advocacy messages and other information products.
- Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the line manager.
Required Experience
Experience in providing technical oversight and support to partner organisations and DRC teams in the implementation of protection programming. Experience in strengthening technical standards and processes, partner capacity, safe and confidential referral pathways, programme quality, and risk-informed programming approaches. Experience in programme design, quality assurance, analysis, coordination, and adaptation to ensure protection interventions are context-appropriate, accountable and responsive to the needs of affected people.
