Overview

The Chief, Nutrition reports to the Deputy Representative and is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of the nutrition programme, from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of results. The role involves leading and managing the Nutrition team and ensuring concrete and sustainable results in ECD, maternal, infant and child nutrition programmes.


Key Responsibilities
  • Managing and supervising all stages of the nutrition programme, from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of results.
  • Leading and managing the Nutrition team.
  • Ensuring that concrete and sustainable results in ECD, maternal, infant and child nutrition programmes are achieved in accordance with plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework.
  • Contributing to and accelerating national development efforts to improve the nutritional status of mothers, infants and children in the country.
  • Providing strategic leadership for the design, implementation and oversight of UNICEF’s nutrition programme.
  • Driving key areas of work including: Managerial Leadership; Programme Development and Planning; Programme Management, Monitoring and Delivery of Results; Advisory Services and Technical Support; Advocacy, Networking and Partnership Building; and Innovation, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building.
  • Working closely with government counterparts, development partners, donors, academia and UN agencies to strengthen nutrition systems, influence policies and mobilize resources.
  • Championing innovation, evidence-based programming and capacity development while ensuring alignment with national priorities, UNICEF strategies and results-based management principles.
Required Experience

At least 8 years of relevant work experience in nutrition, public health, nutrition planning, maternal and child health, health program management, monitoring and evaluation, policy development, advocacy, partnership development. Proven track record in resource mobilization for the nutrition sector. Experience in health/nutrition programme/project development and management in a UN system agency or organization. Experience in coordination of multi-sectoral program, emergency preparedness, early childhood development. Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

Qualifications

Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in nutrition, public health, epidemiology, global/international health, health policy, health management, health sciences, maternal and child health, international nutrition, research methods or another health-related science field.
