Overview

The Associate Data Specialist contributes to the development and implementation of databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. The role supports evidence-based decision-making within the UN Resident Coordination Office.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other analysis, reporting and quality control capabilities.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns using statistical methods.
  • Implement process-improvement mechanisms for data analytics tasks.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and other tools to summarize findings.
  • Document requirements, background information, and methodology.
  • Draft inputs for various documents and reports.
  • Contribute to the development of processes and tools to monitor model performance and data accuracy.
  • Design internal process improvements, including automation and architecture redesign.
  • Implement solutions to data-related technical problems and data infrastructure updates.
  • Prepare and organize datasets for data scientists and analysts.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and data scientists to improve data flows and quality.
  • Create basic data visualization outputs.
  • Coordinate the development of the UNCT’s Annual Results Report and IMS surveys.
  • Assist with data collection and initial analysis.
  • Produce data products like reports or newsletters.
  • Conduct data collection, cleaning, and preliminary analysis.
  • Compile and clarify data insights and develop supporting materials for stakeholder communications.
  • Propose application of current and emerging trends in data analytics best practices, technologies, and tools.
  • Build staff and partner capacity on data analytics through trainings and workshops.
  • Support data preparation and preliminary analysis, verification, and pattern identification.
  • Contribute to the design and development of data science products.
  • Serve as a resource person and informal mentor on data analytics.
  • Serve as RCO focal person for coordinating assigned interagency groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions is required. Demonstrated ability to perform quality assurance of data analysis outputs is required. Demonstrated ability to assess data accuracy and consistency by performing data validation is desirable. Demonstrated skills in data storytelling and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, and R is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, information management, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
