Overview

The Associate Data Specialist contributes to the development and implementation of databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality within the UN Resident Coordination Office.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other analysis, reporting and quality control capabilities.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns using statistical methods.
  • Implement process-improvement mechanisms for data analytics tasks.
  • Contribute to the development of monitoring, evaluation and learning products.
  • Contribute to integrating monitoring milestones, indicators and evidence streams into common data pipelines.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and other tools to summarize findings.
  • Assist in UNCT statistical capacity-building.
  • Assist in conducting outcome-level analysis and contribution/attribution studies.
  • Document requirements, background information and methodology.
  • Contribute to co-designing digital tools and dashboards with national statistical partners.
  • Draft inputs for a wide range of documents/reports.
  • Contribute to the development of processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
  • Design internal process improvements.
  • Implement solutions to data-related technical problems and data infrastructure updates.
  • Contribute to the preparation and organization of datasets.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and data scientists.
  • Contribute to the creation of basic data visualization outputs.
  • Contribute to project tasks, assist with data collection and initial analysis.
  • Contribute to the production of data products.
  • Conduct data collection, cleaning, and preliminary analysis.
  • Compile and clarify data insights and develop supporting materials.
  • Keep abreast of current and emerging trends in data analytics best practices, technologies, and tools.
  • Build staff and partner capacity on data analytics.
  • Support data preparation and preliminary analysis, verification, and pattern identification.
  • Contribute to the design and development of data science products.
  • Serve as a resource person and informal mentor on data analytics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions is required. Demonstrated ability to perform quality assurance of data analysis outputs is required. Demonstrated ability to assess data accuracy and consistency by performing data validation is desirable. Demonstrated skills in data storytelling and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, and R is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, information management, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
