Overview
The Field Engineer (Electrical) will implement the electrical work component of reconstruction projects and maintain field equipment at remote island project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and review of scopes of work, technical specifications, cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQs), work schedules, and designs related to electrical components.
- Conduct inspections of electrical works and installations to ensure compliance with approved designs, technical specifications, applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Provide technical support and guidance to Community Working Groups (CWGs), contractors, and IOM project teams on electrical installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Monitor and verify the progress and quality of electrical works across multiple project sites.
- Support the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of field and construction equipment, including generators, reverse osmosis (RO) units, water pumps, power distribution systems, and power tools.
- Assess equipment performance and assist in planning preventive maintenance activities.
- Carry out or support emergency and routine repairs of electrical and electromechanical equipment.
- Support the training and capacity-building of field personnel, CWGs, and project teams on the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, equipment, and power tools.
- Assist the Procurement and Supply Chain Unit in the preparation of technical specifications and evaluation of electrical equipment and materials.
- Support inventory management and maintenance tracking of electrical equipment, tools, and materials.
- Prepare technical inspection reports, monitoring reports, maintenance records, and other documentation.
- Ensure compliance with IOM policies and procedures, including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), safeguarding, occupational health and safety requirements, and the promotion of a respectful working environment.
- Undertake duty travel to project sites in Chuuk, as required.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience
- Two years of relevant professional experience with a Master’s degree; or four years of relevant professional experience with a University degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in the installation, inspection, testing, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems for buildings and infrastructure projects.
- Experience in preparing and reviewing technical specifications, electrical drawings, cost estimates, and bills of quantities (BOQs).
- Experience in construction supervision, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), and contractor management.
- Professional experience in electrical engineering, construction supervision, infrastructure development, or building services engineering.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited academic institution; or University degree in the above fields.
- Professional engineering certification, electrical license, or membership in a recognized engineering association is an advantage.
- Training or certification in occupational health and safety, electrical safety, project management, or quality management is desirable.
