Overview
Contributes to implementing, running, and monitoring health programs in a specific geographic area or field of activities. Oversees programs with autonomy and delivers services with autonomy, contributing to planning and coordinating health activities at the field level.
Key Responsibilities
- Implements health programs within the geographic area or field of responsibility.
- Assists in designing operational strategies and planning health programs.
- Conducts assessments and field visits to monitor activities and health threats.
- Manages information collected and prepares reports.
- Participates in analysis of the health situation and contributes to project proposals.
- Organizes meetings and advises staff on various matters.
- Collects and shares information to improve understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends.
- Interprets at meetings and translates documents into local languages.
- Liaises and builds networks with local stakeholders.
- Represents the ICRC vis-à-vis national authorities.
- Assesses, identifies, and prioritizes health needs of a given population.
- Communicates and reports on the health context and population needs.
- Contributes to the design of project proposals and contingency plans.
- Attends coordination meetings with stakeholders.
- Provides relevant assistance responses.
- Ensures donations of medical and non-medical items are requested and followed up.
- Ensures improved access to health services and continuum of care.
- Monitors project implementation and adjusts activities as required.
- Reports on field visits and meetings with data analysis.
- Analyzes health facility data.
- Collaborates with other departments to address common interest issues.
- Develops and promotes Health Care in Danger-related initiatives.
- Supports Health team members in the field and covers gaps.
- Replaces the HiD focal point and Health Delegate in their absence.
- Assists the staff health focal point during severe medical evacuations.
Required Experience
3 to 5 years of total work experience (including 2 years of clinical experience) with minimum 2 years’ experience in the humanitarian sector. Good connections with local health authorities or groups of interest for the ICRC. Excellent knowledge of the assigned geographic area.
Qualifications
Degree in medicine or nursing midwifery. Qualifications in public health or health management a strong asset. Licence to practice in his/her own country (Ethiopia).
