Overview

Gain hands-on experience in news production within the UN newsroom, focusing on multimedia products in Chinese.

Tasks Summary

• Draft Chinese news articles by integrating and translating information from various sources
• Translate English video scripts, photo captions and other texts into Chinese
• Proofread news articles
• Assist with fact-checking and background research
• Assist in the production of graphic, visual and audio content
• Work on feature stories, conduct research and interviews, and draft feature stories
• Review partnerships database and look for new digital media and other partners
• Perform other duties as assigned, including outreach

Experience Requirements

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience. A field of study closely related to the internship is required.

Qualification Requirements

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate school program in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
• Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree program in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent)
• Computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel)

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in both English and Chinese is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Contract Duration: min 4 - max 6 months

Work Modality: in person

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
