Overview

Responsible for the implementation of extra-budgetary activities in support of humanitarian disarmament instruments and providing technical and substantive back up in the implementation of mandates.


Tasks Summary
  • Serves as lead officer for implementation support and assistance to States related to CCW, APMBC, CCM and EWIPA.
  • Liaises with donors and prepares reports on activity implementation status.
  • Maintains knowledge of disarmament issues and their impact on responsibilities.
  • Plans, directs, and participates in workshops, seminars, and project activities.
  • Provides inputs on disarmament trends and developments to senior officials.
  • Monitors national and regional political developments and advises senior officials.
  • Maintains contacts with other UN sectors, international organizations, and governments.
  • Monitors actions by intergovernmental groups, UN organizations, and NGOs.
  • Selects, classifies, and stores information on treaty implementation in databases.
  • Participates in missions to countries within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Provides secretariat services to conferences, meetings, and special missions.
  • Prepares meetings of senior officials with country representatives.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, or related area.
  • Minimum of two years experience supporting inter-governmental processes on disarmament, arms control, and non-proliferation.
  • Demonstrable experience in providing implementation support and/or programme management to one or more of the following humanitarian disarmament treaties or instruments: APMBC, CCM, CCW and EWIPA Declaration is desirable.

Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or other related area is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
