Overview
Leads WFP’s engagement with the Government of Tanzania at the national level, focusing on ministries, departments, and agencies. Ensures strategic government relations, advises WFP management on engagement, and supports alignment between WFP operations and national priorities.
Tasks Summary
- Acts as the primary focal point for WFP’s engagement with key ministries and national institutions in Dodoma
- Provides strategic advice to senior management on government relations and political dynamics
- Monitors and analyzes government policy processes, national budget cycles, and institutional priorities
- Identifies opportunities for WFP to support national priorities such as school feeding, agriculture, and climate resilience
- Prepares briefing notes and talking points for WFP leadership
- Builds and maintains strong partnerships with government ministries
- Facilitates linkages between Government ministries and International Financial Institutions
- Supports the design and implementation of government-led initiatives
- Identifies new government counterparts and engagement opportunities
- Monitors national financing priorities and IFI negotiations
- Provides guidance to WFP leadership on relationship management and diplomatic engagement
- Advises on risks and political-economy considerations
- Supports WFP’s compliance with national protocols
- Strengthens WFP’s reputation as a partner of choice
Experience Requirements
- Experience in leading WFP’s engagement with the Government of Tanzania at national level
- Experience in engaging with ministries, departments, and agencies
- Experience in providing strategic advice to WFP management on government relations
- Experience in monitoring and analyzing government policy processes, national budget cycles, and institutional priorities
- Experience in identifying opportunities for WFP to support national priorities
- Experience in preparing briefing notes, talking points, and background materials
- Experience in building and maintaining strong partnerships with government ministries
- Experience in facilitating linkages between Government ministries and International Financial Institutions
- Experience in supporting the design and implementation of government-led initiatives
- Experience in identifying new government counterparts and emerging engagement opportunities
- Experience in monitoring national financing priorities, loan pipelines, and government–IFI negotiations
- Experience in providing guidance to WFP leadership on relationship management, diplomatic engagement, and context-appropriate approaches
- Experience in advising on risks, sensitivities, and political-economy considerations
- Experience in supporting WFP’s compliance with national protocols, formal communication channels, and government coordination systems
- Experience in conceptualizing and analyzing WFP’s development strategies and its applicability in managing and coordinating Government engagement and partnership for development projects design implementation and sustainability
- Experience in keeping WFP senior Management abreast of development issues and changes in Government policies and regulations and conceptualizing ideas and approaches WFP might adopt to changes
