LVIA THIES, Senegal Volunteer opportunity: Humanitarian Volunteer in Social and Green Entrepreneurship

Tasks Summary

LVIA, an Italian NGO with more than 50 years of experience in Senegal, is currently engaged in several projects concerning sustainability, circular economy, social inclusion through the support to green and social entrepreneurship, youth employment and empowerment. The volunteer will join LVIA’s operativity in the city of Thiès, supporting the portfolio of projects aiming to promote sustainable development and social inclusion, mainly focusing on young people and women: specifically, he/she will have an important role working with the local staff in implementing initiatives aiming at improving the quality and effectiveness of the employment policy services offered by the municipality of Thiès, one of LVIA most important local partner. The volunteer will be directly involved in supporting local colleagues in: facilitating events organisation (workshops, seminars, trade fairs, meetings, etc.); participating in the monitoring and implementation of project activities.. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements In Thiès the volunteer will be provided accommodation by LVIA within its compound in one of the single cottages available each with its own bedroom and private bathrooms equipped with basic furniture. There is a common space for volunteers made of a shared kitchen and a dining room. The compound is guarded day and night by wardens. In case of field trips, the organisation will provide transport. The volunteer will receive a monthly grant of 450 EUR to cover up food and personal expenses. LVIA will also cover the cost for travelling from Europe to Senegal (round-trip ticket) and insurance. Training during the activity The volunteer will have access to different kind of training opportunities. He/she will receive Wolof language lessons to be able to relate to community beneficiaries. The Program coordinator will share the basics for project management and administration, to enable the volunteer to play a crucial role in activities implementation. Training and hands-on experience on submission and writing of project proposal to donor will be also offered in case any financial opportunity will happen. Participant profile This volunteering opportunity is ideal for anyone interested in testing himself/herself in a different experience, environment and culture, as well as someone who wishes to acquire/deepen concrete knowledge and skills in the field of international cooperation for development. We are seeking for a motivated and pro-active person, speaking a fair level of French and willing to travel and move around the territory even with few comforts and who has a spirit of adaptation, preferably with previous experiences abroad and/or with NGOs or associations. A person who knows Office Package very well, who is confident with social media (video and photographic material collection, as well as with abilities to relate to his/her own experiences). Ideally, we are looking for someone with knowledge of or an interest in development, economics, agronomy, or marketing; however, applications from eligible candidates are highly welcomed and will be evaluated accordingly
