Overview

This internship provides exposure to the work of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) within the Anti-Racial Discrimination Section (ARDS). The role supports the elimination of racial discrimination globally.

Tasks Summary

• Support States, national human rights institutions, civil society and the UN system on implementing human rights standards and core work to eliminate racial discrimination
• Undertake capacity-building, promotion, protection, prevention and monitoring of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance
• Provide thematic advice and undertake research on contemporary issues such as incitement to hatred, hate speech, religious intolerance, multiple discrimination, and systemic racism
• Provide secretariat support to mandates focusing on racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance

Experience Requirements

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualification Requirements

• Enrolled in, or have completed a graduate school programme (Master's degree or equivalent, or higher)
• Enrolled in, or have completed the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (Bachelor's degree or equivalent)
• Preferably in law, political science, International relations, social sciences or related field

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in spoken and written English

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of another United Nations official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset

Contract Duration: Three months with possibility of additional three months extension

Work Modality: Geneva and/or Remote

Remuneration: This internship is an unpaid engagement. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
