Overview

The Agriculture, NRM & DRM Officer will be responsible for the development and implementation of agricultural practices, DRM plans, Emergency Management, and early warning information systems. The role holder will also develop strategies for integrated disaster risk treatment and provide technical advice on risk assessments and mitigation activities.


Tasks Summary
  • Conduct initial assessments of climate vulnerability, livelihood and conflict sensitivity and community capacity analysis.
  • Conduct consultative community meetings on project interventions related to agriculture, irrigation, and agronomy.
  • Provide support to agro-pastoralists and follow up agronomic practices, irrigation water management, and livestock production and management.
  • Facilitate farmer's field day and demonstrate agronomic practices, and irrigation water management.
  • Work closely with government AEWs, community leaders, and local authorities.
  • Mapping of situation of natural resource management practice, identify challenges and bottlenecks.
  • Identify and propose different and appropriate types of conservation structures.
  • Provide training on physical and biological conservation practice.
  • Delineation of catchments and watershed areas for soil and water conservation practice and production of improved forage varities.
  • Develop and implement natural resource management plans and disaster risk reduction strategies.
  • Provide technical and advisory support to Community based Structures.
  • Conduct environmental assessments and hazard/risk mapping.
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders and agencies, NGOs, and communities.
  • Support disaster information management systems.
  • Provide guidance and leadership during the establishment and strengthen NRM committees.
  • Support the promotion of climate-positive technologies.
  • Provide support on the implementation of Cash support for work for physical and biological NRM activities and governance.
  • Support identification and systematic inclusion of key NRM governance stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategy for community-led disaster risk management.
  • Contribute to the strengthening of knowledge management in DRM.
  • Integrate community-based NRM approaches, gender sensitivity and capacity building of vulnerable groups.
  • Ensure program implementation is on time, target and budget.
  • Participate in partners project kick-off and close-out meeting.
  • Participate in partner monitoring visit and prepare a report.
  • Provide technical guidance to partners on program quality standards.
  • Actively engage in partner project management/review meeting.
  • Support the identification and registration of project beneficiaries.
  • Train lead farmers on improved climate smart agriculture (CSA), Agro ecological practices and nutrition sensitive agriculture (NSA) practices.
  • Provide cascaded climate smart training on animal husbandry, bee keeping, fish farming, improved forage seed production for households.
  • Participate in partner capacity assessment and work with partner to execute the capacity development plan.
  • Collaborate with other peer project teams in the field and AO.

Experience Requirements
  • At least 2 years of working experience in the field of Agriculture (Crop, NRM and DRM).
  • Among which at least 1 year of direct NGO Experience.
  • Experience in project management, budget administration, and donor reporting.
  • Good experience in GIS and remote sensing.

Qualification Requirements
  • BSc or Master’s degree in NRM, DRMSD, Environmental study, Environmental Engineering, Forestry, and other relevant field of study.
  • BSc degree in agriculture, NRM, DRMSD, Environmental study, Environmental Engineering, Forestry.
Other Details

Languages Required: Good knowledge of local languages.

Languages Preferred: Good knowledge of English languages.

Contract Duration: 11 Months

Work Modality: The post holder is expected to spend his/her time about 75% in the field.

Remuneration: Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees
