Overview

Internship supporting the Human Rights Council Branch or the Universal Periodic Review Branch within the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.


Tasks Summary
  • Draft daily notes of proceedings
  • Assist in finalizing draft reports
  • Prepare statistics reports
  • Contribute to analysis of trends
  • Prepare draft summaries of communications
  • Prepare draft responses to correspondence
  • Assist in preparation and servicing of meetings
  • Follow-up on parallel activities
  • Draft summaries for information sharing
  • Assist with outreach activities
  • Attend to queries by NGOs
  • Assist in drafting sections of UPR WG report and UPR Outcome report
  • Undertake Secretariat management related tasks
  • Compile lists of delegations
  • Draft/translate correspondence to participants
  • Handle communication and technology tools
  • Draft ad hoc summaries
  • Provide data research and statistics support
  • Support media-related tasks
  • Take notes during UPR-related side events
  • Assist in preparation of UPR pre-session documents
  • Index UPR recommendations
  • Conduct thematic research
  • Prepare training material, notes, bullet points, electronic material
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience Requirements

Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.


Qualification Requirements
  • Minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent degree, or graduate school program (Master's degree or equivalent or higher)
  • Preferably in law, political science, international relations, social science or a related field
  • Academic knowledge in human rights and international human rights mechanisms is highly desirable.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Contract Duration: 3 to 6-month assignment

Work Modality: Preferably in person and full-time in Geneva, but can be adjusted to a full-time remote engagement.
