Overview
Legal Officer responsible for providing legal advice on UNJSPF disability benefits and managing related cases.
Tasks Summary
- Independently handle complex legal matters, focusing on UNJSPF disability benefits.
- Provide legal advice on UNJSPF Regulations and Rules, particularly concerning disability benefits.
- Manage disability cases submitted to the United Nations Staff Pension Committee.
- Improve the UNJSPF disability award and review process.
- Review disability benefits awarded by member organizations' staff pension committees.
- Advise clients on disability matters and respond to queries.
- Perform legal research and prepare legal opinions, studies, and reports.
- Prepare draft amendments to UNJSPF Regulations and Rules and related policies.
- Represent the Pension Administration in arbitral and administrative proceedings.
- Serve on various boards, committees, and working groups.
- Coordinate and direct the work of other legal officers and mentor junior officers.
- Collect and analyse data to identify trends and provide insights.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing is required. At least two years of experience in a legal office of an international, intergovernmental organization is desirable. At least two years of experience: (i) in an employee benefit scheme of an international, intergovernmental organization, and/or (ii) in administering/advising on disability benefit schemes, is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
