Overview

This internship focuses on news writing and reporting within the Portuguese Unit, News Section II, News and Content Branch. The role aims to provide hands-on experience in producing daily news, in-depth features, and multimedia products in Portuguese.


Tasks Summary
  • Drafting Portuguese news articles by integrating and translating information from various sources.
  • Proofreading news articles before and after publication.
  • Assisting with fact-checking and background research.
  • Assisting in the production of graphic, visual and audio content.
  • Working on feature stories, conducting research and interviews, and drafting feature stories.
  • Reviewing the partnerships database and looking for new digital media and other partners.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, including outreach.

Experience Requirements

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.


Qualification Requirements
  • Enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English and Portuguese or translation studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • OR enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English, Portuguese or translation studies (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Contract Duration: min 3 - max 6 months

Work Modality: New York or remote

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
