Overview
Strengthen the delivery of UNEP's regional science-policy sub-programme mandate in the Africa region, supporting programmatic interventions and informing strategic engagement.
Tasks Summary
- Review, analyse, and evaluate progress and identify trends in regional reporting against the biennial programme of work and budget.
- Support regional contextualization of policy development by identifying gaps and proposing corrective actions.
- Support UNCTs and other country partners to integrate environmental dimensions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of environmental data and statistics platforms.
- Conduct outreach activities, training workshops, seminars, and make presentations.
- Research and analyse science-policy related issues and prepare assessments or studies.
- Support the preparation and servicing of consultative and other meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Support the production of briefing notes, speeches, and regional political briefs.
- Produce targeted information products using data visualization methods.
- Prepare strategic policy and political briefs for engagement with member states.
- Provide input to administrative processes, including budgetary and funding matters.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in environmental policy development and associated natural resource and ecosystem management is required.
- Experience in the UN system’s reform process, including the UN Resident Coordinator System (UNRC) and Regional Collaborative Platforms (RCPs) is required.
- Experience and good grasp of UN 2.0 and UNEPs ‘New Delivery Model Policy’ is desirable.
- Within the five year required, a minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental management/governance/policy related fields, sustainable development related fields is required.
