Overview
Advise on national strategies and workplans for the prevention and control of high threat diseases and infectious risks. Monitor outbreaks, improve epidemic control methods, and contribute to risk communication.
Tasks Summary
- Advise on national strategies and workplans for prevention and control of high threat diseases and infectious risks.
- Monitor early prevention, detection, verification, assessment and investigation of outbreak risks.
- Work with partners to improve epidemic control methods.
- Conduct periodic reporting of infectious hazards activities.
- Contribute to surveillance and risk analysis of infectious diseases.
- Participate in rapid response teams for investigation of alerts and field risk assessments.
- Ensure risk communication messages are technically sound and socio-culturally appropriate.
- Make recommendations and give guidance on courses of action to prevent/control excess morbidity and mortality.
- Provide technical assistance on vaccination, surveillance, infection control, sanitation, hygiene, water provision, drug prepositioning, and vector control.
- Request activation of technical experts networks for pathogen characterization.
- Represent the Country Office at official meetings.
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Experience Requirements
- At least one (1) year of professional experience in planning, developing and implementing the control and prevention of infectious diseases programme including outbreak prevention and control, infectious hazard management and/or dangerous pathogens.
- Desirable: Experience working in WHO, other UN agencies or relevant non-governmental or humanitarian organizations.
Qualification Requirements
- Essential: University degree in medicine, public health or health related field from an accredited/recognized institute.
- Desirable: Master level or above. Specialized training in epidemiology. Specialized training in infectious diseases.
