Overview
The IRC is seeking Emergency Safety & Security Coordinators to join its surge team to meet ad-hoc emergency safety and security needs of IRC country programs globally. This role primarily supports emergency response teams and covers gaps in security leadership.
Tasks Summary
- Provide technical support on policies, procedures, guidelines, and planning for staff safety, operational security, and program continuity.
- Evaluate, review, and update security management plans, hibernation and evacuation plans.
- Conduct risk assessments of contracted and prospective offices and residences.
- Undertake continual assessments of equipment and protocols.
- Provide and implement solutions for communications equipment.
- Develop and maintain a network of IRC Security Focal Points.
- Ensure safety and security protocols account for gender-specific risks and local contexts.
- Follow up on all incidents and accidents with official written reports.
- Monitor the operating environment, identify new threats, assess vulnerabilities, and recommend responses.
- Develop and implement humanitarian access strategies and approaches.
- Develop ongoing relationships with local authorities and key stakeholders.
- Provide technical input and advice on assessments for new geographic locations.
- Liaise and coordinate with relevant security actors.
- Provide training to IRC staff on Safety & Security and Access skills.
- Assess development needs with partners and provide advice and support.
- Develop, review, and deliver onboarding packages and briefings.
- Participate in program design and review meetings.
- Advise program and field management teams on context-specific risks.
Experience Requirements
- 5 years of non-profit or NGO work experience within international humanitarian programs.
- Demonstrated capabilities in planning, organizing, and implementing humanitarian security operations in the field.
- Experience in delivering training; ability to develop, implement, facilitate and impart learning to a wide range of audiences.
- Proven management experience, including people and projects.
- Highly skilled in organizing and coordinating large-scale, fast-paced, responsive field programs.
- Solid ability to provide team-building, coaching, and development for staff.
- Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal skills.
- Strong negotiation and mediation skills essential with experience in conflict resolution essential.
Qualification Requirements
• Undergraduate university degree or higher is preferred, though candidates with a technical degree, certification in a related field, or significant applicable lived experience will also be considered.
