Overview

The IRC seeks a Supervising Attorney to provide legal services for unaccompanied children, focusing on supervision, direct representation, and legal proceedings.

Tasks Summary

• Supervise attorneys, legal assistants, and DOJ Accredited representatives.
• Conduct and oversee intakes with child clients and identify immigration relief.
• Provide direct representation for unaccompanied children before USCIS and immigration court.
• Initiate state court proceedings for SIJS eligibility.
• Provide legal trainings and technical case assistance.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external providers.
• Ensure client and program data is collected, managed, and reported accurately.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of asylum and immigration policies.
• Serve as an advocate for humanitarian immigrants.
• Participate in community-based coalitions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience providing direct representation in immigration court and/or before USCIS to asylum applicants and other immigrants seeking humanitarian relief.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing direct representation before state courts in furtherance of SIJS petitions.
• Experience providing legal services to unaccompanied children and/or working with children preferred.

Qualification Requirements

• Law degree (JD or LLM) from an ABA-accredited U.S. institution.
• Member in good standing of the Texas bar.

Other Details

Languages Required: • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

Languages Preferred: • proficiency in Spanish is desired

Contract Duration: • until September 30, 2025, with possibility of extension dependent on funding

Work Modality: • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area

Remuneration: • (Pay Range: $64,351 - $109,721)
