Overview

Volunteer instructors are sought to support English language learning among recently arrived adult refugees and immigrants in New Jersey. The role involves facilitating classes and promoting English language skills for employment and self-sufficiency.

Tasks Summary

• Facilitate small to large group instruction using provided curriculum.
• Design customized lesson plans based on provided curriculum.
• Facilitate and support technology skills through online lessons.
• Promote core competencies of English language skills.
• Create a welcoming environment that fosters community and learning.
• Record attendance and prepare lesson materials.
• Submit the Teacher Log after each class.
• Communicate with Adult Education staff to evaluate student progress and define lesson objectives.

Experience Requirements

• Experience teaching ESOL/EFL to adults in group settings.
• Familiar with Zoom and other teaching related platforms.
• Experience working with adult students from a variety of backgrounds, including those with limited formal education and/or literacy skills.
• Excellent classroom management skills.

Qualification Requirements

• TESOL certificate or working towards receiving a TESOL certification is preferred.

Languages Required:

Languages Preferred: • Fluency or familiarity with Spanish, Arabic, Pashto, Dari, Haitian Creole, or Swahili is a bonus, but not required.

Contract Duration: 10 weeks long session for at least 6 months
