Overview

The Education Officer will provide operational and technical support to implement Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) activities in Borno, Nigeria. The role aims to support the development of an ECDE model to increase government and donor investment.

Tasks Summary
  • Implement the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) project across the BAY States, Nigeria.
  • Support the Education Programme Manager in planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Contribute to assessments and ensure timely procurement and distribution of materials.
  • Ensure accurate project documentation and data collection for reporting.
  • Facilitate relationships with communities, partners, and government officials.
  • Supervise and manage teachers/learning facilitators, including training.
  • Support in planning and coordinating engagements with education authorities and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate recruitment of volunteer teachers.
  • Contribute to ensuring timely and quality reports are submitted.
  • Support in developing, planning, and monitoring project detailed implementation plans, procurement plans, phased budgets, and MEAL plans.
  • Recommend technical solutions to improve implementation and budget performance.
  • Support project staff in developing annual plans and ensuring compliance with work plans and funding proposals.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, transparency, and accountability.
  • Provide regular operational and implementation updates to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure timely reviews and adjustments for project operational and implementation plans and budgets.
  • Support project monitoring, suggest revisions, and prepare draft reports.
  • Support the Education Programme Manager in monitoring and reporting budget variance analysis.
  • Ensure safe programming and adherence to Do No Harm principles.
  • Support the review and preparation of narrative and financial reports.
  • Participate in reviewing programme financial reports and progress review meetings.
  • Represent the program at stakeholder meetings, workshops, and other engagements.
  • Develop and maintain communication channels with partners and stakeholders.
  • Support MEAL aspects, including assessments, baseline, and evaluation studies.
  • Ensure quality benchmarks are followed and implemented.
  • Collect and manage complaints and feedback.
  • Ensure regular monitoring of project results, documentation of case studies, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Coordinate learning and reflection meetings/sessions.
  • Ensure effective program/project monitoring and evaluation systems are in place.
  • Monitor program/project activities for quality, timeliness, and adherence to policies.
  • Identify learning needs and develop plans to address them.
  • Coach and mentor project teams on technical support and program implementation.
  • Participate in project management meetings for staff support.
Experience Requirements
  • At least 3 years of accrued working experience in program implementation with an NGO and those applying partnership approaches is desirable.
  • Experience in strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Experience of working on and supporting the implementation of ECDE interventions in humanitarian or development setting is an added advantage.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and build the capacity of ECDE teachers in a humanitarian or development setting will be an added advantage.
  • Experience of working with diverse group of stakeholders at the community, LG, State and National levels.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity.
  • Experience in managing integrated programmes across different thematic areas such as Education, teacher education, Early Childhood Development and Education, Teacher Professional Development (TPD), Cahild protection, child rights or governance is an advantage.
Qualification Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Early Childhood Development and Education is an advantage) or other related fields.

Languages Required: • Fluent English language skills (written and verbal) and any local language.
