Overview
Responsible for preparing, reviewing, and implementing security plans and risk management strategies to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel, premises, and operations.
Tasks Summary
- Prepares and reviews security plans and contingency plans.
- Ensures the use of UNSMS security risk management strategies and policies.
- Provides written guidance on security components and procedures.
- Participates in security-related meetings and provides briefings.
- Maintains communication with security focal points and other agencies.
- Assesses local security conditions and advises UN staff.
- Evaluates evacuation routes and resources.
- Ensures availability of fire detection and fighting equipment.
- Conducts physical security inspections and manages office security.
- Ensures the availability of emergency communications systems.
- Conducts investigations on security-related incidents.
- Assumes responsibility for guard force management.
- Assists in response to crisis events and security incidents.
- Facilitates coordination of Close Protection security arrangements.
- Collaborates with NGOs, diplomatic missions, and Host Government representatives.
- Strengthens awareness and capacity of personnel through security training.
- Conducts security training on various security subjects.
- Performs other relevant duties as required.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of five (5) years with an advanced university degree (seven years with a first level university degree) of progressively responsible experience in the military, police or security management is required.
- At least two (2) years in security operations is required.
- At least one (01) years' experience in UN security operations at international level and in a conflict or post-conflict environment is required.
- Experience of security risk management within the United Nations Security Management System (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions, and UN agencies, funds, and programs) or similar international organization or non-governmental organization in a field-based environment is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
- An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent such as a senior command and staff college qualification) in security management or business administration, political/social/military science, or international relations with focus on security management.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience in military, police or security management may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A first-level university degree may be substituted with a diploma from a national police or military academy resulting in an appointment as a Commissioned Officer (i.e. Lieutenant / Inspector or equivalent), in combination with four additional years of qualifying experience in military, police or security management, maybe accepted in lieu of a first level university degree.
