Overview
The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Expert will lead the design and implementation of the SMART-Mine GESI analysis to inform the design of the SMART-Mine implementation phase, ensuring GESI considerations and providing opportunities for vulnerable Zambian population segments.
Tasks Summary
- Conduct a rapid preliminary literature review to identify GESI challenges and strategies in Zambia, particularly related to youth and women in mining.
- Develop a sound methodology for GESI analysis and associated data collection tools, including objectives, scope, research questions, data collection framework, target stakeholders, methods, tools, and a workplan.
- Collect primary data in line with the approved GESI analysis methodology through interviews, focus group discussions, and potential surveys.
- Draft a GESI analysis report including description of the GESI context, key findings, high-level recommendations, and a proposed GESI action framework.
- Provide inputs pertaining to the findings of the GESI analysis for a workshop with key project stakeholders, including preparing presentation slides and participating in the workshop.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work or project experience in designing and conducting GESI analysis and project mainstreaming is required.
- Excellent knowledge of social research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods is required.
- Sound understanding of international GESI policy frameworks and Zambia-specific GESI challenges, policies and institutional landscape is required.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate findings into actionable insights and recommendations are required.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly summarize and present findings to an institutional audience are required.
- Familiarity with skills development and/or mining sector related challenges and initiatives in Zambia, or similar African contexts, would be an asset.
Qualification Requirements
- Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in gender studies, social sciences, economics, development studies, public policy or closely relevant discipline is required.
- Alternatively, a first level university degree or an advanced technical college diploma may be acceptable provided it is combined with additional 5 years of professional hand-on experience that is directly relevant to the expertise required by the specific assignment.
